Board-certified family medicine physician with training in sports medicine, clinical research, and medical education.

Dr. Gonzalez is a board-certified family medicine physician and incoming Primary Care Sports Medicine fellow at McNeal-Loyola University Medical Center. He completed family medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center / Esperanza Health Centers after earning his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His work spans musculoskeletal medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, clinical research, resident education, and sports medicine leadership.

Education & Certification

Dr. Gonzalez earned his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2022 after completing earlier training at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Loyola University Chicago, where he studied chemistry with biochemistry emphasis and a minor in biology.

He is board certified in family medicine and holds current Illinois licensure, DEA registration, and controlled substance licensure.

Selected Academic Highlights

Recent academic work includes leadership of a PROSPERO-registered systematic review and meta-analysis on home- and office-based sarcopenia screening in adults ages 40–60, a disparity-focused abdominal aortic aneurysm screening study in an underserved primary care population, and a clinical AI elective exploring predictive modeling of osteoarthritis pain outcomes.

Additional highlights include service as President of the AMSSM Sports Medicine Resident Council, poster presentation at the 2025 AMSSM Annual Conference, educational presentations at Family Medicine Midwest and resident special interest forums, and receipt of the Family and Preventive Medicine Research Poster Award for exemplary scientific and methodological rigor.

Selected scholarly work includes two peer-reviewed publications in The Journal of Arthroplasty, a case poster titled Winging It: Scapular Dyskinesia in a Muay Thai Athlete presented at the 2025 AMSSM Annual Conference, and research presentations on abdominal aortic aneurysm screening disparities and musculoskeletal outcomes. Educational presentations have included Decoding Back Pain for Primary Care, Machine Learning in Healthcare: A Primer for Clinicians, and Applying to Sports Medicine Fellowship.
